While some people may believe that living in isolation is all bad and boring, I feel that there is
some good during this time right now. However, this feeling is understandable because whenever one
hears the word “quarantine”, we tend to automatically think of all the things we are not allowed to do.
Instead, we should try to think about all the opportunities quarantine has given us. This pandemic has
given us the chance to use our downtime to connect with our family and develop new skills. I mean, it is
called “downtime” for a reason. Therefore, I have provided a short list of things to do to help get through
this difficult time:
Meditation: Meditation is one of the best things to do to help relieve stress.
Set up an at-home theatre: Due to COVID-19, movie theatres are closed all over the
world. However, this does not need to stop you from getting some sort of cinematic
experience. In recent years, projectors have gotten less expensive. Therefore, this is the
perfect opportunity to watch a movie or tv show, with your family, on any blank wall.
Create some art: We have the opportunity to channel your feelings into something
creative. For example, painting is an amazing way to express yourself. Staying at home is
the perfect time to develop a new skill.
Play some brain games: Keep your mind active during this quarantine. Fortunately, there
are multiple fun and educational games online to help keep your brain sharp.
Listen to a podcast: Podcasts are one of the best ways to educate yourself in your spare
time. There is something for everyone, with topics ranging from comedy to world news.
Go for a walk or run: Despite having to stay at home, you are still allowed to go outdoors,
staying six feet away from others. Quarantine is something to take advantage of by
getting daily exercise.
Finish a puzzle: Staying at home is the perfect time to finish the impossible puzzle with
1000 pieces.
Play dress up: COVID-19 has given us the opportunity to try upcycling our old clothes.
For example, you could try tie-dying an old t-shirt or distressing a pair of jeans. Now,
host a photoshoot in the best lit area of your house with your new old clothes.
Create a bucket list: Make a bucket list for things you need to do by the end of
quarantine. You can even add new skills you want to learn.
Host a virtual group hang: It is understandable that weeks of social distancing can get
tough. However, with technology, you can still keep in touch with your family or friends.
Write a letter to your future self: In this letter include topics regarding your hopes, goals
and dreams.
Watch the sunset: Welcome a new day and try all of this stuff again.
